COCC Charity Bike Ride 2016
The 24th April 2016 saw over one hundred of intrepid cyclists take on a 140km journey from St Tropez to Monaco. The COCC race was organised by the Champagne & Oyster Cycling Club of Monaco (COCC), in aid of The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which teaches children to be safe around water.
This years race offered participants the best weather that the event has ever had. With a clear blue sky and with the temperature spiking to over 20C, the riders made their way to the start of the race in St Tropez for 8am where all 115 cyclists were welcomed by COCC event organisers. After a few words of encouragement, the riders set off on the 140km journey – next stop St Raphael, then Mandelieu-La Napoule, then Antibes, then Nice (complete with obligatory pint of Guinness, of course), then Eze and finally…Monaco!
Having flown in straight from Paris and the Formula E race, Prince Albert II joined the cyclists from Nice airport for the final stretch to Monaco. The long awaited final stage had to be the most euphoric, with all cyclists taking on the last leg of the course together – complete with police escort! Crowds of supporters cheered everyone over the finish line at Stars n’ Bars, with family and friends gathering to celebrate their loved ones achievements. A quick shower and change followed, before the day was concluded at the renowned Slammers after party, where the teams of cyclists were rewarded for their efforts with some hard earned refreshments.
The Sunseeker Cycling Team wouldn’t have been able to take part in the event if it wasn’t for the support and assistance of our local Group network. We would like to thank everyone who was involved in this years race, and we are already looking forward to next year!
